Organic Products
Organic Materials: There is a growing movement toward organic and semi-organic products in the green industry. Many communities in close proximity to a large body of water such as a lake or river are encouraging citizens to choose "Phosphate free fertilizers". These materials will not add to the algae problems that so many lakes and rivers experience at times during the warmer months when the dissolved oxygen levels in these body's of water are high.
Organic fertilizers are predominantly made of animal by-products. They are an excellent choice where a concern exists in relation to an allergy or a pet that has been shown to be sensitive to other types of fertilizers. Organics tend to be slower to activate and typically last a bit longer if applied correctly. Organic materials are generally more expensive to produce and carry a slightly higher price. Organic fertilizer also is beneficial in turf areas to boost microbial activity, thusly helping break down thatch and remaining grass clippings.
